Population And Social Profile

Labason has 86.33% nutrition rate with 11.47% below normal and 2.2% above normal.  The agency responsible for this high nutrition rate were the Rural Health Unit of Labason and the Municipal Social Work and Development Office.

It is important to note that the LGU had actively campaigning against malnutrition.  Nutrition month is celebrated every month of July, the Nutrition Month, in order to let the people know about proper nutrition.  Various activities were undertaken particularly cook-out on various school located in the municipality.

Health Care Facilities and Personnel


The providers of health services in the municipality were the Rural Health Unit (RHU), Labason District Hospital, and one private clinic.  In addition to these main health providers, seven (7) Barangay Stations situated on strategic areas of the municipalities, twelve (12) Barangay Centers were situated on catchment barangays of the municipality.  These health services centers were man by competent health practitioners (physicians, nurses, and midwives)
Augmenting to the current state were 125 active BHW and BNS and traditional hiluts.  Further, in addition to the ethnical roots of the residents of this place, baylan or tambalan (quack doctors) are also the resort of some residents but they cannot see any relief, they will go immediately to a doctor for proper medical treatment.
Dental health is also being catered by these health service facilities and in addition to that three (3) dental clinics are available serving the people.
Lastly, three (3) drug stores are serving the municipality situated in the public market, though medicines are also dispensed on the aforesaid health care facilities.

 

 

Labason enjoys a very high literacy rate at 70% or more.  It has already produces many professionals that contributed much to the municipality and the province as a whole.  The active competition among inhabitants for educational attainment helps much for the survival three (3) private high schools, two (4) public high schools including annexes, and three (3) private colleges.  Further, every barangays had its own public elementary school excluding Balas which had two elementary schools.  In addition to that, the municipality have two (2) private elementary schools.

It is also important to stress that the municipality had 32 Day Care Programs for public pre-schoolers run by the Municipal Social Works and Development Office and six (6) private pre-schools. 

According to the Department of Education, Labason has a literacy rate of 70%; cohort survival rate of 60%; drop-out rate in elementary at 6% and in secondary at 9%; and participation rate in elementary at 95.7% and in secondary at 76%.
