The Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council Launches Comprehensive Information and Education Campaign on Republic Act 9165 to Strengthen Community Awareness Against Illegal Drugs" In line with the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of every citizen and building drug-free communities, the Municipal 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒊-𝑫𝒓𝒖𝒈 𝑨𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒍 (𝑴𝑨𝑫𝑨𝑪) is proud to roll out a robust Information and Education (I&E) Campaign focused on Republic Act 9165 – otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This initiative represents a critical step in empowering residents with knowledge that serves as the first line of defense against the devastating impact of illegal drugs on individuals, families, and society as a whole. RA 9165 is a landmark piece of legislation that outlines clear regulations on the prevention, control, and suppression of dangerous drugs in the Philippines, while also emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation, treatment, and reintegration for those affected by substance abuse.
The MADAC’s awareness campaign goes beyond simply highlighting the legal consequences of drug-related offenses – it seeks to foster a deep understanding of how illegal drugs undermine physical and mental health, disrupt family relationships, hinder economic progress, and erode the social fabric of our communities. Through a series of engaging activities, including community forums, school-based seminars and multimedia presentations, the campaign will address key topics such as identifying common illegal substances and their effects, recognizing signs of drug abuse, understanding the rights and responsibilities of citizens under RA 9165, and knowing where to seek help for oneself or loved ones struggling with addiction. It also aims to encourage active participation from all sectors – from youth and parents to local leaders and business owners – in creating supportive environments that reject drug use and promote healthy, productive lifestyles. By equipping the public with accurate information and practical resources, MADAC strives to build a united community that stands firm against illegal drugs, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to live a safe, healthy, and fulfilling life. This campaign is a testament to the council’s dedication to proactive governance and its belief that informed citizens are essential to achieving lasting change in the fight against substance abuse.
