Population And Social Profile

The original settlers of Labason were Subanen who later adopted Islam after the Arab missionaries influenced them.  At present, majority of the settlers of Labason are migrants from the Visayas Area particularly from the island of Bohol, Cebu, Negros and Siquijor.  They now constitute majority of the population.  The Subanen now being influenced by other tribes mostly educated although residing in barangays Lapatan, Malintunbuan, Balas, Lawagan and Gabu. Meanwhile, other ethnical group converted now to Islam are also living at the coastal area and also staying mountainous areas of New Salvacion and Immaculada.

Due to some irreconcilable data that still being questioned by the Municipal Planning and Development Office, the same office for purposes of formulating this very first ecological profile of the municipality of Labason, province of Zamboanga del Norte decided to use the 2000 Census on Populations as base-line data, respectively.

Further, the aforesaid office used projection techniques to come up with a projected population for the Year 2010.
